Being pregnant has its ups and downs. Yes, it’s one of life’s wonderful experiences that simply can’t be topped. But there are also challenges to face when it comes to having an ever-expanding waistline. Finding the right clothes to work with a body that’s always changing does take some getting used to. And then you also need comfortable shoes to help you through all the waddling you’ll start to do in the later months.
Even in the early stages, though, I wanted shoes that were stylish and comfortable. I didn’t want to throw in the towel for nine months of dumpiness with sweatpants and UGG® boots (don’t get me wrong, I’ve worn my favorite pair of UGG® boots constantly—just with something other than sweats!). Having some sense of pregnant style was important to me, though it did get harder and harder as my belly grew and my choices became more and more limited.
Back to those UGGs, though…I usually wore my UGG® boots or UGG® Australia Coquette slippers from the minute I got home after work to the moment I crawled into bed at night. There’s just nothing like padding around the house with cozy shearling underfoot.
For work, I consider myself lucky that we have a very laidback dress code here at OnlineShoes.com. So wearing jeans every day isn’t out of the question. All I’ve needed are some cute, versatile flats that go with anything, like the black Fossil Maddox Flat. I have these in a leopard-print pattern, too, true religion jeans fat girl, and they’re my go-to shoe for adding a little bit of personality to a basic outfit. Since my entire maternity wardrobe seems to be grey and black, I gravitate toward any shoe or accessory that can add a pop of color or texture.
As far as pregnant comfort goes, there are days when slipping into a pair of cute sneakers is all I can manage to give jeans a little bit of oomph. The PUMA Zandy sneaker has a super comfortable footbed and a ballet flat-inspired low profile. You can kick these on for weekend errands or running out to grab a quick bite for lunch. The adjustable strap even offers a touch of extra room if your feet start to swell a bit during the later months.
I went to Mexico for a destination wedding a few months ago, and I really wanted a shoe that would give me some height while looking formal and beachy at the same time. I found a fun maternity dress that was just the right mix of feminine and flattering (not an easy task, true religion jeans discounted, but a must when you feel like a blimp). And this Kenneth Cole Reaction Know Show Pewter sandal caught my eye. I just love the metallic color and flouncy flowers that add the right amount of detail. And yes, I know you’re going to think I’m crazy for wearing such a high heel. I ended up kicking them off for a bit of dancing; otherwise, they were amazingly comfortable and easy to walk in all night—even in the sand. They were the perfect choice for the occasion; plus, I’m pretty sure they’ll be in my regular shoe rotation all summer long.
Now that warmer weather has made its way to Seattle a time or two this spring (thank goodness),true religion jeans on sale, I have sandals on the brain. And since I’m pretty much in the home stretch of my pregnancy, where I sadly can’t see my feet much to care if my shoes are very cute or not, it’s nice to have sandals to take me to the end of my nine-month journey. I just might wear the metallic Gentle Souls Brakester sandal every day from now until the end of summer because of the soft footbed, barely there pancake heel and d’Orsay silhouette that is kind to pregnant feet.
At least my feet haven’t seemed to grow a half or full size like some women experience during pregnancy. Wouldn’t that be a shame? To have to replace a closet full of shoes? Luckily, though, I have a good assortment of pregnancy-appropriate shoes that are perfect for any occasion. Whether or not I can see them on my feet is an entirely different story.
